Fertility Awareness Based Methods of Contraception

This self-paced eLearning course on Fertility Awareness Based Methods (FABMs) presents the science that supports FABMs, describes each method (including the FDA-cleared mobile apps), and explains how to follow a client-centered counseling protocol to offer these methods of family planning to clients during a family planning visit. Job aids and patient education materials are included with this course and may be downloaded.

After completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the guiding principles for fertility awareness-based method use.
  2. Explain the menstrual cycle, including the cyclic and observable biomarkers or fertility indicators associated with hormonal fluctuations.
  3. Describe strategies people can use to monitor biomarkers of fertility.
  4. Apply client-centered counseling strategies to educate clients about fertility awareness-based methods.
